at the Orpheum Theatre in January 2007, BET’s Celebration of Gospel
2007 brings together an array of renowned artists to praise the Lord
in Los Angeles, California. Although an auditorium and not a church,
the Orpheum is nevertheless blessed with performances that range
from traditional Gospel hymns to urban-inspired inspirational tunes.

Superstars like Kirk Franklin and Yolanda Adams grace the Orpheum’s
stage, but the not to be missed highlights include:

Tribbett and Greater Anointing.

Those looking for Steve Harvey’s wit from
the program’s live broadcast will be sorely disappointed to find
that the comedian has been digitally deleted from the concert film
as text is used to introduce artists instead. Although the musical
acts are strong, Harvey’s absence ultimately devalues the DVD. The
cost of securing Harvey’s inclusion on the DVD would have been well
worth it as the entertainer’s shtick was particularly clever during
the live broadcast and his song and dance routine with Dr. Bobby
Jones was a hoot. Next time give the dude a few points on the
package. And who was in charge of spell checking? Note Loretta
Devine, star of stage and screen, spells her surname “De” not “Di”vine.
