Marvin is 60
By Sakyi Kaliym Oduro
Marvin Gayes teaching through his music touches the best part of us and
Marvin was precisely about touching the soul. You not only listen to Marvins music,
but you also feel it. Marvin is 60 commemorates his infectious music and voice and
features an all-star lineup of contemporary R&B artists including Brian McKnight, Jon
B., Chico DeBarge and many others interpreting some of Marvin's most heartfelt songs.

While Chico DeBarge and Joe have blessed top rap artists
with their gift of voice, they add a new reality to Marvins songs on Soon Ill
Be Loving You Again" and 'Til Tomorrow. On Got to Give it Up, Motown divas Zhane sing
their groove thang so we can relieve some of lifes pressures.
Michael McDonald shouldve been chosen to record a tribute song to Marvin since he's
the only one to hold his own with Patty Labelle. He's #1 on the list of white men with
soul (Jon B is #2). It wouldve been great to hear McDonald with McKnight on the
remake of Marvins Distant Lover, where McKnight sings the whoooo note
like no (except for perhaps maybe Jeffery Osborne).
