Jennifer
Lopez
J-Lo
By Steven Fullwood
Okay I admit it; I did it for the money. The only other excuse I have for picking
up J-Lo, Jennifer Lopezs second album is that shes on the cover - to me, she
is unbelievably fine. I can only imagine that Lopez is laughing all the way to the bank.

But you have to hand it to Ms Lopez; she recently had the
number one film and album in the country simultaneously. Her acting and music careers seem
to drive one another. But be clear, Ms. Lopez only wants to show you that she can do it -
that is, have a musical career. Mission accomplished. Think of her as Paula Abdul
2001 with slightly better vocal skills. The end result is that J-Lo is a collection
of infectious, but instantly disposable dance music.
The 15 dance and mid-tempo Latin-flavored tracks melt the moment they hit your ear. The
first single, the bouncy My Love Dont Cost a Thing, might make your feet
move, but it's forgettable. Also included in that category are the tracks Im
Real, Play, Thats Not Me, and, well, just about
everything else. But I cant lie. Some of it is quite fun.
Lopez writes about half of the album and serves as one of the executive producers.
Producer/songwriters Rodney Darkchild Jerkins and Puff Daddy contribute to
make J-Lo radio savvy. Still, J-Lo is at best an average effort from a film actress who is
doing her damnedest to make the very best of her moment. I applaud her. M
