Jackson 5 Christmas Album
By Steven Fullwood
Whoa, take me back, take me back!
Picture this: Toledo, Ohio, 1970--it was a nice, white December. I was four, rambunctious,
and forever glued to the TV set when the Jackson 5 came on. I was so crazy about the
Jacksons. I even tried to assemble my siblings into the Fullwood Five. Let's just say it
didn't work out.

On The Jackson Five Christmas Album, the Jacksons deliver
the goods. Yes, of course, it's bubblegum pop music of the highest order, but what makes
this CD so good can be summed up in one word: Michael. One earful of Michael wailing away
on "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," with his strong emphasis on
"SANTA!" would put a smile on the grinchiest Grinch.
What can compare to Michael's prepubescent soulful tenor tearing up "Someday at
Christmas," "Frosty the Snowman," or "Up On The House Top?"
Nothing, really, even though Jermaine gives it a shot.
Jermaine tackles old Christmas traditionals such as "Have Yourself a Merry Little
Christmas," and "The Christmas Song," with courage. But quite frankly,
after listening to him, you might end up skipping ahead to the next song Michael leads on.
Jermaine may have been older, but he doesn't have what Michael has--pure, unadulterated
soul.
Overall, The Jackson Five Christmas Album is a really fun album, mainly because us
30-Somethings get to reminisce on the soulful times Michael, Jermaine, Tito, Jackie and
Marlon gave us. It's more than just a record--its a family reunion. M
