Trina Broussard
Inside My Love
By David P. L. Dodson
From the label that so often caters to your inner child comes an album that
finally talks to the adult in you. Those of you who remember Broussard's cover of
"Inside My Love" from the "Love Jones" soundtrack, will know what I
mean when I say talks to the adult in you. It is fitting that the album is named after
that cover because time and again Broussard's musical influences shine through. However,
unlike so many artists today, these influences are presented in a way that pays homage to
the originators rather than imitates them. The one set back for this album is that
Broussard may have held back a little too much. I kept waiting to hear her voice explode,
but it remained tempered (I'll have to wait for a live show I guess). I could go into the
songs specifically (like the beautiful "All I Need is You" or the elegant
"Sailing"), but this is truly an album to be heard from beginning to end -
perfect for a quiet evening with a book or a romantic evening at home with your
significant other. Welcome back to adulthood. M
