In
Redbelt, a highly skilled fight instructor - easily beguiled by
friends and family - fights with honor. David Mamet’s artistic
look at the world of mixed martial arts, Redbelt stars thespian
Chewitel Ejiofor as Mike Terry, the leader of a failing dojo.
A
former military man, Terry has supplemented his military
training with years of studying Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Based in
Los Angeles, Terry teaches the art and honor of his sport to
cops and other citizens in his local community. Following his
creed that “competition weakens the fighter,” Terry shies away
from cashing in on his skill and refuses to participate in prize
fights until his back is against the wall and his reputation is
at stake.
A
cinematic exploration of one man’s dogged adherence to an
unpopular code of honor, the film also stars Alice Braga, Tim
Allen, Emily Mortimer and Joe Mantegna. (M. Lowe, MOSAEC.com) |

In Speed Racer, a label-less
driver eschews deep pocket sponsors as he strives for the
checkerboard flag.
Despite Technicolor images in this high-octane themed film,
Speed Racer’s plot is painfully lackluster and is more likely to
induce snores than cheers (M. Lowe, MOSAEC.com) |

Synopsis |
Hurtling down the track, careening
around, over and through the competition, Speed Racer is a natural behind the wheel. Born to race cars, Speed
is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only
real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized—the
legendary Rex Racer, whose death in a race has left behind a
legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill.
Speed is loyal to the family
racing business, led by his father, Pops Racer, the designer of
Speed’s thundering Mach 5. When Speed turns down a lucrative and
tempting offer from Royalton Industries, he not only infuriates
the company’s maniacal owner but
uncovers a terrible secret—some of the biggest races are being
fixed by a handful of ruthless tycoons who manipulate the top
drivers to boost profits. If Speed won’t drive for Royalton,
Royalton will see to it that Speed never crosses another finish
line. (Studio). |

Mo Micro Review |
In War, Inc., Hauser (John
Cusack), a hot sauce swigging mercenary, poses as a Tamerlane
trade show producer, pushing Brand USA in war torn Turaquistan.
However, Hauser’s true purpose is to bump off a Tamerlane-backed
oil minister – Omar Sharif – no not the actor :-).
A
satirical pot shot at the business of war and warmongers, the
film starts out hokey, but in the end is as a quirky political
commentary bolstered by strong performances from its ensemble
that includes Joan Cusack, Marisa Tomei, Hilary Duff, Ben
Kingsley and Dan Aykroyd. (M. Lowe, MOSAEC.com) |
