Stacy Spikes, Founder and Executive Director of UWFF, brings together the hottest names in
the entertainment industry at this festival that is geared toward minority filmmakers.
Whats new for Urbanworld this year? The exciting thing is the films that we
are expecting, states Spikes. UWFF will premiere Best Man, the Malcolm Lee
film starring Taye Diggs and the thriller In Too Deep, which stars Omar Epps. In
addition to these studio releases, you can also screen a vast array of feature,
documentary and short films from independent filmmakers.
This year UWFF continues to stay on the pulse of the entertainment industry by presenting
panels on digital filmmaking, the craze for Latin culture, an actors workshop with
Samuel Jackson, woman in the business, documentary filmmaking and other innovative topics.
Urbanworld has taken on a whole different dynamic with its panels, explains
Spikes. Its a very aggressive and almost a social manner of commentary of
whats happening on the frontiers of filmmaking and not just black filmmaking.
Were saying here are the subject matters and issues that we need to deal with as a
whole.
Whats next for Urbanworld? The film division is still coming and with
urbanworld.com were going to get into bringing movies to the web, says Spikes.
