The
film stars Nicole Ari Parker and Terrence Howard as Nina and Byron,
respectively, a pair at a crossroad in their relationship. Nina is
leaving the Windy City for the left coast to begin college and a new
life. Her somewhat possessive beau convinces Nina to forgo Greyhound
and leave the driving to him, all the while secretly pondering
thoughts of hitching his wagon to her star.

In this taut thriller directed
by Garret Williams, Parker and Howard deliver strong performances
and exhibit a natural chemistry on screen as a couple unwilling to
admit to each other that their romance is waning. Williams
effectively directs Parker as the goal-oriented and a little too
trusting girlfriend of an angry urban fellow who is nevertheless
mellowed by his seemingly country dumb newfound friend, Mooney
(Brendan Sexton III).
But, the film suffers from
a plot twist that is difficult to credibly accept. The film evokes
a moment of uncontrollably head scratching when our street savvy
protagonist, having escaped the scene of a crime, returns to the town
with its questionable views on racial inclusiveness without Al Sharpton and a busload of protestors in tow. Heck, even Byron’s
homey Jesse Jackson still has some cachet. But then again this pair,
despite taking a cross country trek, doesn’t have cell phones so
they’re SOL anyway.
