Shoot ‘Em Up, Mr. Smith (Clive Owen) is a resourceful, yet reluctant
gunslinger who protects a damsel and babe caught between arms
dealers
and policy makers. Alone and lost in thought, Smith rises from his
pensive perch to assist a pregnant blonde fleeing a band of thugs.

The carrot-packing hero is quickly called upon to
do extra duty as a midwife and babysitter. But Smith draws the line
at wet nurse, opting instead to secure the services of the
ever-lactating DQ (Monica Bellucci). Hot on the trail of the
carrot-chomping gunslinger and his charges is Mr. Hertz (Paul
Giamatti), a bugged-eyed former forensic behavioral consultant who
takes pleasure in hurting people.

Written and directed by
Michael Davis, the film is a witty actioner that is a send up of the
shoot ‘em up, which is crafted to titillate with imaginative
gun-play, chase scenes and sexually-laced humor. Peopled with
caricatures spouting one-liners, the irreverent film with its paper
thin plot makes light of fire fights while simultaneously poo pooing
the gun control and the right to bear arms ideological camps.
Gratuitously violent, Davis’
larger-than-life protagonist body bags henchmen with ease. But since
Smith is the hardboiled and irascible good guy laying his life on
the line for innocents, the volume of bullet-ridden corpses he
leaves in his wake may be just fine for some.
