The shutdown of
the neighborhood skating rink forces X and his posse to venture
across town to Sweetwater, a rink ruled by the ultra egoistical and
flashy Sweetness (Wesley Jonathan in a standout performance).
Challenged to defend the honor of his crew, X sets out to show the
Sweetwater faithful his skating prowess.
Although rap-actor Bow Wow receives
top-billing and performs solidly in his role as X, the film's
strengths are the talented supporting cast that enliven the
refreshingly simple tale of African Americana and the 1970's music
that evoke memories of summertimes when living seemed so
uncomplicated and carefree.
