Fred
Thomas, Jr. - What's Happening Now
By Ramona Prioleau
Best
known as one of the original "Whassup" guys from Charles
Stone's short film "True" (or more popularly the Budweiser
commercials), Fred Thomas, Jr. is poised to make a more significant
mark in cinema. While indicating no preference for work behind the
scenes or in front of the camera, Thomas is putting his Masters degree
in film from Temple University to work. Thomas has recently completed
work on his sixth short film, A
Shepherd's Story, that screened at the New York International
Independent Film and Video Festival (NYIIFVF) in February.

Filmed exclusively in
Philadelphia and shot on digital video, A Shepherd's Story revolves
around a young drug dealer's quest for redemption and his efforts to
uplift the community that he previously plagued. A Shepherd's Story,
which has been well-received by audiences in the Philadelphia
community in which it was shot, was inspired by Thomas' spiritual
crisis as well as a moral dilemma confronting Thomas' friend.

In addition to NYIIFVF, A Shephard's
Story is entered in festivals in Washington, DC, Las Vegas and Los
Angeles. Thomas also plans to pitch television outlets in the future
to acquire his short film. However, not waiting for broadcast
executives to determine the reach of his work, Thomas sells a video of
his film after screenings as well as "out of his backpack and the
trunk of his car." To purchase A Shephard's Story, contact Thomas
at illtown215@yahoo.com. Also, look for future projects from Thomas
who is developing a romantic comedy for which he is seeking funding.
