The Bourne Ultimatum,
2007, 111 minutes, Rated PG-13
By Ramona Prioleau
After
a 3-year hiatus from Jason Bourne, during which time Matt Damon
plied his trade as a CIA
orchestrator rather than a disavowed operative, Matt returns to
the role that has become his tentpole. The franchise, which began in
2002 with The Bourne Identity (Doug Liman), was followed up with
2004's The Bourne Supremacy (Paul Greengrass). Along with Damon,
Greengrass returns and helms the latest and most satisfying film in
the series so far - The Bourne Ultimatum, a
film that is based on characters created by Robert Ludlum.

A
former military man, Bourne is recruited to join the top secret CIA
unit Treadstone. One of a select few charged with carrying out
covert missions to advance US interests abroad, Jason is the
multi-lingual boy-next-door assassin that one would least expect of
cold-blooded murder. But trauma-induced amnesia has left Bourne
adrift and he has searched his mind and confronted his former
employers in order to achieve total recall.

Ultimatum picks up where
Supremacy left off with Bourne dodging bullets and weaving his way
out of tight jams. Just when it appears Jason is backed into an
inescapable corner, a quick kick or flick of the wrist restores his
advantage. In true Bourne fashion, he evades homeland security and
slips in and out of nations with apparent ease.
In Ultimatum, Jason travels
to the Big Apple to connect the disjointed pieces of his past. En
route, he encounters a variety of obstacles, but Jason doggedly
uncovers the mysterious circumstances that made him a
government-sanctioned killer. Fast-paced and shot with
character-enhancing cinematography, Ultimatum is an espionage film
that intrigues and entertains.
The Bourne Ultimatum also
stars Julia Stiles, Joan Allen, David Strathairn, Scott Glenn, Paddy
Considine, Edgar Ramirez and Albert Finney.
