The proliferation of black culture, art, and style into mainstream society has
created a niche market for black creative talent who define black culture, art and style.
One of the finest publications to do so is Body & Soul: The Black Male Book.

Body is the brainchild of Duane Thomas, a freelance Art
Director and founder of Noir magazine. Body is a lush, photographic tribute to
African-American men in contemporary culture and style. Leafing through the soulful pages
of Body affirms positive, powerful images of African-American men. There is so much
negativity surrounding young black men that it's refreshing and exciting to see this
change take place. I wanted to create a photobook to document that progress, states
author Duane Thomas.
In the introduction to Body, Veronica Webb states The power and magic of
photography, television and film is in their availability - and their inescapability. And
today, black men undeniably share in that power.

Body highlights 90s icons such as:
DAngelo, Sean Puffy Combs, Wyclef Jean, Tyson Beckford, Mekhi Phifer,
Chris Rock and Djimon Hounsou. It also features photographs by top fashion photographers,
Marc Baptiste, David LaChapelle, Michel Comte, Walter Chin, Greg Gorman and Billl Wylie.
In addition, the book includes commentary from Nelson George, Susan Taylor and Bethann
Hardison. The beauty of Body is that it clearly defines the spirit of culture, art and
style that mainstream society has made a decision to study and assimilate.
