I agree with the article. However, I notice that you have no "Old School" hip
hop on your list. When you say that music is more sales driven and hip hop is in for that
reason, you just HAVE to point out the hip hop that was around before it reached that
point. The music that the underground artists are trying to get back to. I wanted to list
a few, but I"m having major brain block and I don't want to embarass myself and upset
the "heads" who know what I'm talking about. Public Enemy and KRS-1 (The first 2
albums of each) are an idea.

Dave, That is a very good article. I understand the point you were making by suggesting
those classic albums. Keep up the good work. Mikini (One of Alyce's kids from Clark

I really enjoyed reading this piece. It make me consider Black music today and it moved
me to give thanks for the music of our past. David Dodson provided such solid descriptions
of the classic albums that I'm planning to check them out. I like his writing very much,
and would love to read more of his thoughts on music. And,I have one question regarding
his list, Where are the chicks?
Great job, Mosaec. Carla

Rap is poetry. While most popular rap contains an abundance of cliches and slang, one
cannot judge an entire genre on a few poor examples. Perhaps Mr. Dodson would have us
believe that any poem written to conform with the metric regularity of a musical beat (not
such an easy task) ceases to be worthy enough to be considered poetry, but who grants him
the authority codify this narrow minded definition?
