I BELIEVE STREET RECIEVES ITS NEGETIVE COMMENTS BECAUSE THE EUROPEANS DONT UNDERSTAND ITS UNORTHODOX NATURE.STREET BALL STARTED WITH KIDS USING GARBBAGE CANS ON GROUND LEVEL,BECAUSE CITY PARKS DIDNT HAVE RIMS OR WERE TO FAR TO GO TO.THESE KIDS PLAYED THE GAME W/ A LOT OF IMAGINATION THUS THEIR ABILITY TO DO SOME OF THE MAGICAL THING WE ALL SEE IN BASKETBALL TODAY.

NBA commentators refer to streetball in derogatory manner because streetball is an art. Almost anyone can learn the technical basics of basketball. But visit any outdoor court in America where the best players meet to showcase their skills and you'll see movement, shooting and passing that can only be best described as art in motion.

because a lot of commentators know that some of these guys who play "street ball" will give a lot of guys in the NBA the business. For Example look at what happened to "Mr. I am Better Than Michael Jordan Stackhouse" he got his ass bust in hunter college pro am tournament. And hell no he could never be better than Jordan. I don't care if Jordan is 50 years old.

I believe it does not get the credibility it deserves because people do not understand the game of basketball as street players do. it all is in the hart. Basketball evolved the game of street ball, therefore it shall forever remain apart of the game itself. That is why players today illustate that rawness street ballers do.It basketball in its rarest, rawest form.I love this game!

I was a student at Norfolk State back in the late 60s when Pee Wee played there. He was a very agile player and I use to wonder how he dressed so well. All that does not matter now because I am so happy to know that God has a definite purpose in his life. I watch those Nike commercials and I think I see him. I wish you well Pee Wee and would love for you to come to speak at my church in NOrfolk...where I now pastor Rev. H. Bernard Branch 757-545-0462 I was known to be a streetballer at Hemingway Park in Norfolk. There were greater ones "Ace", "Big Fred" "Boo Boo" many of these guys never made it to college however, they worked hard and knew the game, it ought not to be a negative connotation, but a reference to some who worked hard to play and know the game

i believe that street ball gets negative feedback because europeans are generally threatened by the uptempo atheletic change and style. its an attitude that many cant deal with.street ball players play with game with style and grace that regular standard basketball cannot display, it allows kids to show their creativity on a whole new level, to advance moves and add grace and authority to them.in general street players are way more advanced than n.b.a players, and on the street courts their skills speak for themselves. a lot of pro players have been domianted on street courts and thats why streetplayers and certain street courts like the rutgers in harlem get respect from basketball players all over the world

Street ball doesn't get the credibility that it deserves, because you probably would still have the NBA segregated the way it was back in the 50s if it wasn't for streetball, commentators understand the wouldn't have a career if it wasn't for streetball, because there wouldn't be quite as many teams because there wouldn't be quite as many players, commentators like criticizing everyone else when they are no one else, look at Marv Albert. They just need material to talk about so they talk about streetball, back in the 50s no one watched the NBA because watching an all white sport is boring, that's why you have players taking all sorts of sports, we've taken basketball, football, baseball, golf, and are integrating hockey we've already started to take over soccer, if it wasn't people other than whites their wouldn't be nothing interesting, because whites are so plain. I BELIEVE STREET RECIEVES ITS NEGETIVE COMMENTS BECAUSE THE EUROPEANS DONT UNDERSTAND ITS UNORTHODOX NATURE. NBA commentators refer to streetball in derogatory manner because streetball is an art. Looking down on streetball is bull**** I believe streetball is just the tru players who love basketball and dont want the money

It is because at one time "organized" basketball, that is, basketball played on the college, and pro level did not include blacks or "negros" as we were called then. So it was with disdain that when, and if, the situation came about that a "white" team was ever beat by a "bunch of black guys from the inner city" they would smirk and say "yeah they beat us but they were playin street ball" as if it didn't matter because we were like a bunch of monkees who just happened to throw the ball in the direction of the basket and "lo and behold" it went in!!! The epitome of this situation is when the famous southern coach with the championship team had the occasion to play a team that had an all black starting 5 (I don't remember who the interactial team was) and LOST. That was his biggest embarrasment in life and it tought America a lesson about RACE. There are alot of good "street ball" players sitting the bench because of coaches who still hold out these feelings toward blacks and basketball.

To playground style clash with NBA game. Everyone that knew anyhting about ball would watch the game. They should put on the allstar game weekend or somehting. fuck that other question. this should be brought through im out like shawn kemps hops

Streetball is a term whites made up to keep themselves from feeling inferior. For example, they(whites) say: We play professional ball, not that streetball. Truth: The majority of whites don't possess the qualities or toughness to play in the streets on a high level (pee-wee, the goat, etc.,.), so they have to label it as being beneath them. They tried to do the same thing with boxing(brawlers, street brawlers, etc..), but we proved to perform on every level and supercede their expectations. P.S. Juci Jay is a weak ass, spineless hater.

one of the key reasons why the "pros" frown upon the street is because the street player is unpredictable. Street moves, if they are good, are unpredictable. The coaches want to be able to have control over their players. In the pros you have to do textbook moves while the street player creates his own moves.

I think that NBA commentators and other "Professional" people hate on Streetball because of the fact that the so called "BEST" can't play at that level. Streetball is a tough game and not just anyone can go out there and just dominate like streetballers do. They hate on it because its not setting picks and passing the ball to the big man all the time, or in other words they hate on it because your not contained. The commentators our so full of s*** with the NBA that they fail to realize that streetball is the same game but with a lot more attitude and its a lot more advanced. There ain't to many NBA players that can even try to D Hot Sauce up. Streetball was there in the begining and because of that that's were the NBA came from. Don't hate the game cuz yall can't play it. (P.S. Juci Jay is a lil b****.

I think steetball is the foundation of NBA basketball. Every real, true basketball player loves to play streetball, because it's raw, you do it because you love the game, not for money or for applause. Please tell me some good streetball courts in Chicago, because I'm moving there.

Pretty soon the NBA's Most explosive athelets will be playing at Rucker Park. This will occure because the NBA already feel as though the NBA players dont need all the money they get.

I think that they have no respect because the commentators dont understand the raw talent and grittiness that comes out of streetball. NBA is just where the big money is and thats all. Not to disrespect the players in it but it doesnt have the heart that streetball and streetball players have. They're still hungry, their ribs are touching and they put all that into that court. But as you can see now that players and corporate America is recognizing that and capitalizing on it. Just look at And 1, MTV's Who's Got Game and commercials in a whole. NBA commentators just see streetballers as streetballers nothing more, they dont see the talent. They see the violations, the unpredictibility, the edginess; and the thing is, is thats what makes it great. I see a future for streetballers and streetball in a whole. Just look at Allen Iverson along with a long list of others. The NBA commentators will find a respect for it when they wise'n up to the facts.

I never watched or even had a consciousness about the existence of streetball until it went mainstream. I can honestly say that my knowledge of the discipline only extends as far as And 1, Slam magazine, and the internet, but I've enjoyed learning about the legendary, almost mythical element in the game. Does street ball's mainstreaming signal a new openess and respect of African Americans in the white gaze or is it just another "mistrel show." peace

this people belittle the true legends of basketball because they really don't know what basketball is all about and basketball is all about the streets man. If all this playground legends are still alive and still in their prime,Jordan will only be a second rated player. This legends could beat all the nba greats with one hand tied in their backs. The street ball players deserves some respect because their moves on the court are very respectable.

Really i'll tell you the truth. street ballers are players who play for the love of the game and respect, not for money or etc. Im from brooklyn ny and now i play for utah valley state college and i referring to that comentators mention the street ballers cause players in the nba remind them of old school guys like goat, pee wee, drj, and etc,and players now a days remind them of these guys in the way they play.

Clearly the euro NBA commentators still want to preserve an image that good Basketball skills can only develop in an organized leauge, gym or institution. They still have a big problem accepting the natural creativity demonstrated by brothers whom learned the game in the streets.

Streetball i s referred to in a derogatory manner by commentators because the NYC Harlem Globetrotter style of streetball. It's a lot of tricks which involve traveling, double dribble and other major infractions that compromise the integrity of the game. It's entertaining but the rule breaking makes it subject to criticism. Street ball is about the way it's played in the rest of the US, Detroit, Chicago, Philly, DC, L.A. etc where it's about winning and putting the ball in the hole. It isn't about ooh and ahh, it's about putting the ball in the hole more than your opponent.

You must realize that commentators do not understand the culture of the less privledged. Yeah, they may have played ball in the hood, but the streetball legends lived the street life at one time or another. Perhaps, not so directly as the commentators may perceive. How could they judge the sking I'm in. The less fortunate ghetto superstars generally grow up with less bus seem to excel the most if they stay focused. Much love to all streetball legends, and legends in the making. Peace on earth and asphalt!

I THINK PERSONALLY STREET BALL GETS A BAD NAME BECAUSE THE NAME SPEAKS FOR ITSELF.KIDS DIDNT HAVE RIMS AND HOOPS SO THEY MADE THERE OWN WHETHER IT BE A BASKET OR TRASH CAN.ANYBODY CAN LEARN HOW TO PLAY BALL BUT IN THE STREET ITS DIFFERENT ITS LIKE A WHOLE NOTHER LEVEL. FOR INSTANCE THE AND1 PLAYERS ARE STREET LEGENDS AND I THINK STREET BALL IS PART OF SHOWIN HOW MUCH SKILLS U GOT AND TO GET RESPECT FROM THE STREETS. BUT IT ALSO GIVES U THE ABILITY TO DO CERTAIN MOVES OF UR OWN THAT U CREATED AND CAN TAKE CREDIT FOR AND ALSO BE ABLE TO DO WHAT U WANT INSTEAD OF GOIN BY SOMEONE ELSES RULES.

The reason I believe that Nba commentators look at streetballers in a derogatory manner is that they dont understand the nature of the game or how much heart, grit, and determination that streetballers have. Its certain NBA players that wouldnt be playing the game if they wasnt making all that money. A true streetballer would play the game if its 10 or 110 degrees.

A lot of the negative energy the NBA has toward streetball is pure jealousy. Streetball has tought us that basketball can be fun and entertaining and I think the NBA is intimitated by that. It's two different styles of basketball and Everyone needs a chance to showcase his or her talent.

This used to make me so mad when the announcers would say derogatory-type comments about street ball. Now I understand why. They aren't degrading Pee Wee Kirkland, Billy "The Kid" Harris, Fly Williams, and guys like that. Those are playground legends who also did it on the hardwood. Those guys had skills and knew how to play. The guys they are talking about is these guys who dunk and throw their jersey in the crowd and think they are a legend. That is who I believe they are talking bad about. Those guys, And 1 players, constantly talk about how they bust NBA players or they could do this or that. Well NBA teams are drafting high school players with no experience and some who dont even play and dont even look at the "legends" haha for a reason. They simply cannot play basketball. Pee Wee and them, they played basetball, they just played it on the blacktop. I honestly think it is more degrading to the REAL streetball legends to hear the guys today call THEMSELVES legends when they just got a name after 2 games in one park. RIP GOAT.

because street ball is known to most people as a rough form of basketball with no rules. Most people do not understand that many NBA players started playing ball at the parks, constantly playing against players better than them. Street ball helps players more than it hurts them.

I believe that most NBA commentators associate streetball with poor decisions and a lack of discipline. These are very negative traits that will hinder you on and off the basketball court. Streetball players are stigmatized with having their priorities out of order. They will play to impress the crowd rather than play to help the team win. They will risk losing the game in order to gain individual recognition is how many people perceive them. People with this mentality will not get a college education, will sell or indulge in drugs and are high risk in any organized team structure. This preception persists because the media is only interested in streetballers that fit this narrow mold. I am a Harlem streetball legend that received a B.A. in Sociology from the University of San Diego. I received a Masters Degree in Education from the City College of New York. I was a Captain in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge. I am entering my eighteenth year of teaching as a fully certified New York City school teacher. I have given back to my community through involvement with our youth pushing for positive goals and achievements. However, you will probably not hear about me because I do not fit the mold that streetballers want to be perceived as.

THe announcers disrepsect streetball because they haven't put into perspective the fact that streetball wasnt intended to have fundamentals as the basis of the game, contrary to the NBA. Streetball was the birthchild of egotism and flair, and pride, things in the hood that will take u out of it, which fundamentals can never do.

Being a former Harlem legend, I know the hardships and adversities that players go through being young and black in a place where the temptations of crime are overwhelming. It is not surprising though why NBA commentators direct hate towards streetball, as they simply look at one side of it; players simply looking to do what will garner them the most recognition aka showing off. They do not though look at the side of it which is people working and struggling solely for a game which does not always return to them what they put in. And that is the true love for the game.

the only reason commentators refer to streetball in a derogatory way is because they never played streetball a day of thier lives also some of the most famous players has that streetball attitude towards the game and they play with that streetball mentallity to become the greatest player

well they look down on streetball because if you take a street legend like say AO or Hot Sauce and put them in the NBA they would get destroyed, if they play say paul pierce 1 on 1 the dribbing would be useless and you cant dunk every single time u get the ball, and you have to be able to make a shot

Some NBC commentators thank the game should always be played a certain way and no one person is bigger than the game. I feel the game is a player’s game with each person having his own unique style of playing the game. With everything in the world changing, you've got to be naive to think the game of basketball won't change.
