For three days I was an extra in AMISTAD filmed in Mystic, Conn. I was a longshoreman. During the filming the emotions that I saw my brothers and sisters of color convey when they saw the "Slave" actors it made you appreciate all the sacrifices of our ancestors. I would leave the shoot with the attitude "before I'd be a slave...I'd be resting in my grave". One thing in particular I noted was that Mr. Spielberg treated the actors who potrayed slaves as royalty...they had luxury line buses, dinned away from the regular cast and crew... which was a good thing. In as much sometimes during the shoot, some of the "white counterparts" would continue acting like slave owners even when they were ordered to "CUT".
